Connection between low oxygen ranges, human gene found
College of Texas at Arlington researchers have established a hyperlink between hypoxia, a situation that reduces the circulation of oxygen to tissues, and HOTAIR, a noncoding RNA or molecule that has been implicated in a number of forms of most cancers. RNA, or ribonucleic acid, is current in all residing cells. Its main function is to hold directions from DNA. In a research revealed within the journal Gene this month, Marco Brotto, a professor of nursing on the Faculty of Nursing and Well being Innovation, and Subhrangsu Mandal, an affiliate professor of chemistry, write that hypoxia helps assist the expansion of most cancers cells in individuals with the HOTAIR gene. The paper was co-written with three graduate college students from UTA's Division of Chemistry: Arunoday Bhan, Paromita Deb and Nadine Shihabeddin; and Khairul Ansari, a former UTA adjunct college in that division.
